Justin is joining us from Southern California where he fostered a strong interest in ecological restoration while working as a restoration field lead for the National Park Service. He has a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a B.S. in Fishery and Wildlife Science from Oregon State University. He has three research focuses: a) to evaluate the effectiveness of an applied silicon solution as a vertebrate herbivore deterrent in dryland revegetation efforts; b) to examine how seed origin (local, seed transfer zone, commercial) influences seedling establishment and survival in drought conditions; and c) to evaluate how community functional traits influence community invasibility. Outside of his studies, Justin enjoys weightlifting, hiking, mountain biking, camping, pickleball, native plant propagation and landscaping, guerrilla restoration, reading, and attempting to converse with non-plant nerds about non-plant interests.
